Instagram have made the decision to prevent its images from showing properly on users Twitterfeed.
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom confirmed at yesterday’s ‘LeWeb’ conference that the companies plans to prevent Instagram images from being embedded on Twitter will go ahead.
Systrom gave an interview to the New York Times’ blog following his appearance at the conference.
“We’ve (Instagram) decided that right now, what makes sense, is to direct our users to the Instagram Web site. Obviously things change as a company evolves and Instagram recently launched user profiles on the web, which creates a stronger need for the company to drive eyeballs to Instagram images.”
Systrom also addressed what will replace fully displayed Instagram images on Twitter, a link to the Instagram website where they can view a fully displayed version of the image.
Twitter confirmed the image display problem in an update several hours ago.
“Instagram is disabling its Twitter cards integration, and as a result, photos are being displayed using a pre-cards experience.”
There is some blame pointed in Twitters direction following an unfavourable approach over the summer toward developers and other social platforms, including Instagram when Instagram had it’s access to Twitter’s follower graph revoked, taking away the ability for Instagram users to grow their network there on the strength of their Twitter connections.
